6월 21부터 7월 15일까지 김지현, 김하영, 알맹이, 지미례 4작가의 Downtown Monsters 전시가 개최된다. ‘몬스터’ 이야기는 언제나 꿈과 환상, 어른들과 다른 순수한 모험의 세계를 들려준다. 오래된 신화에서 묘사되던 어둠의 기형생물이나 해골, 털복숭이의 벌레나 프랑켄슈타인 같은 몬스터들은 징그럽다는 조건반사적 혐오감이나 악마적 이미지에서 벗어나 은밀한 동질감이나 친밀감 같은 다양한 감정을 가지고 새로운 동시대 문화 아이콘으로 진화하고 있다. 사회 심리적으로도 이 몬스터에 대한 친화력과 공감력은 높아지고 있다. 이번 전시에서 소개하는 다양한 몬스터들은 우리 자신의 불완전성, 미숙성, 비표준성을 상징한다.

Downtown Monsters exhibition will be held in Insa gallery by four artists Kim Ji-hyeon, Kim Ha-young, Almaengi, and Ji Mi-rye from June 21st to July 15th. Tale of ‘monsters’ has always been an exciting world full of adventures, dreams and fantasies. Abhorrent and fearful images of dark mythical creatures such as skeletons, hairy bugs, and Frankenstein are slowly transforming to become more of contemporary cultural icons since people are starting to identify with them as empathy and affinity for these monsters are increasing socially. The various monsters introduced in this exhibition symbolize our own imperfection, immaturity, and unusuality.
