가을의 정취가 깊어가는 늦가을, 인사갤러리에서는 2025년 공모를 통해 선정된 두 작가, 김우주와 김희진의 전시를 선보입니다. 두 작가는 단색조와 반복되는 사각형이라는 조형적 공통점을 지니면서도, 각각 파편화된 야생초와 분할된 아파트를 주제로 서로 다른 세계를 펼쳐 보입니다.

김희진 작가는 비단 위에 수간 채색으로, 자칫 무미건조하게 느껴질 수 있는 아파트를 다양한 시점에서 분할하고 재구성합니다. 수평과 수직으로 이루어진 건물들 사이로 변화하는 햇살과 그림자를 담아내며, 작가 고유의 조형미와 색, 온도를 표현합니다.

김우주 작가는 척박한 환경에서도 피어나는 야생초의 강인한 생명력을 화면에 옮겨, 작가 내면의 희망과 욕망으로 치환합니다. 화면 속 사각 틀에 담긴 야생초는 기억 속 초상처럼 자리하며, 아사천 위의 콜라주 기법과 밀도 높은 단색의 유화 물감으로 그 존재감이 강조됩니다.

이번 전시는 두 작가의 공통점과 차이점을 비교하고 대비하며, 작품 속 다양한 조형적 요소와 의미를 발견할 수 있는 자리입니다. 많은 관심 부탁드립니다.

As autumn deepens, Insa Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition featuring Kim Wooju and Kim Heejin, two artists selected through our 2025 open call. While their works share formal elements, including monochromatic palettes and recurring rectangular forms, the artists explore distinctly different worlds: fragmented wild grasses and subdivided apartment buildings.

Kim Heejin reimagines apartment buildings, which might otherwise seem mundane or impersonal, by fragmenting and reconstructing them from multiple perspectives. Working with mineral pigments on silk, she captures the shifting sunlight and shadows that fall across the horizontal and vertical lines of the buildings, expressing her distinctive sense of form, color, and atmosphere.

Kim Wooju explores the resilient vitality of wild grasses that flourish even in harsh environments, transforming them into expressions of inner hope and desire. Framed within rectangular forms on the canvas, the grasses take on the presence of portraits preserved in memory. Through collage on hemp canvas and the application of densely layered, monochromatic oil paint, the artist accentuates their vivid presence.

By bringing these two artists together, we invite viewers to explore both the affinities and contrasts in their work, discovering the diverse formal elements and meanings that emerge through their juxtaposition.
