‘re’가 ‘뒤로 되돌아가다’, ‘이전 상태로 회복하다’, ‘반복하다’ 등을 뜻한다면, ‘write’는 ‘일정한 표면 위에 다양한 도구를 사용하여 아이디어-메시지-생각-사실-글 등을 기록할 목적으로 작성하다-집필하다-쓰다-남기다-그리다’라는 행위를 의미한다. 작가는 말한다. “과거와 현재가 만나고 과거를 통해서 스스로 나에게 질문을 던지고 답을 얻는 중요한 시점에서 ‘다시 쓰다’라는 제목을 선택했다”. 비록 작가가 ‘rewirte’가 아닌 ‘Re: Write’를 사용했지만, 이번 전시를 분기점으로 삼아 작가의 인생을 다시금 새롭게 바라보고 작업을 이어서 반복해나간다는 뜻으로 해석해볼 수 있겠다.

이번 전시에서도 두드러지는 특징은 바로 순수한 시각적 조형 요소에 기반하여 형성된 조화로운 색채의 향연으로서, 사회적 이슈와 인터랙티브 미디어로 가득한 동시대 미술의 거대 담론 속에서도 여전히 시각적으로 빠져들 수밖에 없는 오일 페인팅의 전통적인 회화적 미감(美感)을 흠뻑 느끼게 해준다. 그리고 그곳에는 소재로서 사과가 여전히 포착된다.

Park Me-Youn’s <Re:Write> exhibition is a retrospective. If ‘Re’ implies ‘to go back’ or ‘to repeat’, ‘Write’ signifies the act of recording messages, thoughts, facts, or using various tools on a consistent surface for the purpose of documenting, leaving, or drawing. The artist states, “Choosing the title ‘Re:Write’ at this crucial moment where the past and present converge, I reflect on myself through the past, asking questions and finding answers.”

Although the artist used ‘Re:Write’ instead of ‘rewrite’ as the title, one could interpret its meaning as a turning point, prompting the artist to reexamine her life and continue her work afresh. The main feature of this exhibition is the harmonious display of visually striking elements, rooted in pure visual and formal components. Amidst the vast discourse of contemporary art filled with societal issues and interactive media, the exhibition invites viewers to immerse themselves in the traditional aesthetics of oil painting, offering a rich experience of visual sensibility and apples are still relevant as subject.
